India’s first green hydrogen blending project was officially launched on January 3 by state-owned NTPC. The piped natural gas (PNG) network of the NTPC Kawas township, in Surat, has begun blending green hydrogen. The project is a collaboration between Gujarat Gas Ltd. and NTPC (GGL).
P. Ram Prasad, the project’s Kawas leader, started the first molecule of green hydrogen from the plant while other senior executives from NTPC Kawas and GGL looked on. With the assistance of GGL representatives, NTPC Kawas hosted awareness sessions for township residents after the blending process began, the firm claimed in an exchange filing.
Natural gas will be provided to homes in the Kawas development in Adityanagar, Surat, through this arrangement. In this concept, green hydrogen is created by electrolyzing water with power from an existing 1 MW floating solar plant.
The power ministry stated in a statement on January 3 that “NTPC and GGL have worked tirelessly towards accomplishing this milestone in record time after the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 30th July 2022.”
Only a select few nations, including the UK, Germany, and Australia, have thus far accomplished such a feat.
