India would launch its first Atmanirbhar human flight ‘Gaganyaan’ in 2024, said Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh. The launch was supposed to take place in 2022. However, it was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
India will conduct two preliminary launches in 2024. The first one will be unmanned; it will mark the routes. The second experiment will carry a robot to measure the situation further. Humans will be sent to space in the third mission. In his opinion, the launch would increase the confidence of the nation. The mission will let an Indian origin set foot in space.
The space sector has seen drastic changes in the past few years. For example, public-private partnerships have widened the sector, letting private companies launch satellites into space. According to the minister, Gaganyaan would be a historic feat for India, a late entrant in the space sector compared to America and Russia.
