The 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 Youth Olympics (to be hosted in China) will be broadcast on the Reliance-backed Viacom18 network across the Indian subcontinent following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Wednesday. According to the organisation, this covers the markets of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
IOC did not provide a deal figure, although media experts estimate it to be between Rs 200 and 250 crore. Industry insiders estimate that Viacom 18 paid Rs 450 crore for the broadcast rights to the recently finished Fifa World Cup.
Viacom18 will offer “multi-platform,” or both television and digital coverage of the Olympics, just like it did under the Fifa World Cup agreement. The broadcaster will also offer free-to-air television coverage of the Olympics Games in the area, according to the IOC.
