The Indian Railways would bring about Hydrogen-fuel powered, indigenously designed and built trains in December 2023. Currently, the design process is going on. Engineers would design them like Vande Bharat trains, informed the Railway Ministry.
The Railways is also manufacturing the ‘Vande Metro’ train to support the middle-class and poor commuters. Vande Metro will replace the designs in the 1950s and 60s. The Vande Metro trains will be produced in mass numbers. The Railways is also working on the Vande Bharat-3 design which would be ideal for long journeys.
Meanwhile, the Railways have started a new startup initiative for which about 800 startups have applied. The Railways will support the 50 selected startups from the ideation to the production stage. “Once the product is successful, we will give them funds for four years so that they can really stabilise and use those products within the railways first, and then globally,” said the Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
