The “Rooftop Solar Programme” has been extended through March 31, 2026, according to a request made by the government to consumers. According to a statement from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the programme has been extended through March 31, 2026, therefore subsidies under the programme will be accessible until the program’s target is met.

The statement read, “All residential consumers are hereby urged not to pay any additional fees to any vendor on account of fee for application on the National Portal or any additional fees for net-metering/testing which are not prescribed by the respective distribution business.”

It stated that if any vendor, agency, or person sought such fees, the ministry should be notified via email at [email protected].

Customers who are interested in installing rooftop solar panels can apply and follow the application procedure on the National Portal.

On July 30, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the rooftop solar gateway.

Residential consumers must install rooftop solar plants from any one of the vendors registered by the respective distribution company of their locality, according to the ministry. “The subsidy under the National Portal has been fixed at Rs 14,588 per kW (for capacity up to 3 kW) for the entire country,” the ministry said.
