Days after the Mark Zuckerberg-led business announced significant layoffs, the heads of WhatsApp India, Abhijit Bose, and Meta India’s public policy department, Rajiv Aggarwal, both resigned from their respective posts. Shivnath Thukral, who is currently WhatsApp India’s head of public policy, has since been named the director of public policy for all Meta-owned social media sites in India, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
The news comes just a few days after Ajit Mohan, the previous CEO of Meta India, left the firm to work for rival Snap, the parent company of social media giant Snapchat.
The change occurs at a time when Meta has let go of as many as 11,000 employees, or 13% of its global workforce, as a result of low revenue and a crowded advertising market. The company has made minor staff reductions in India, one of the most attractive areas for Meta with more than 200 million users of Instagram and WhatsApp.
The previous few months have been difficult financially for Meta. The company’s profit in the third quarter of FY23 more than halved to $4.4 billion from $9.2 billion in the same time last year. Additionally, the company saw a 4% decline in sales from July to September of this year. However, Meta generated 27.7 billion in operating revenue.
