Khaled was honoured by the DRDO at Gujarat’s Defense Expo 2022 for creating a tiny gas turbine jet engine. The prize was given to him by Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, at the 12th edition of the Defence Expo in Gandhinagar, which featured an exhibition of autonomous weapons at the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) pavilion.
Khalid believes that his intense interest in physics and machinery is what inspired him to create the novel engine, which is surprising given that he has no formal training in mechanical engineering.
Khalid took part in the Dare to Dream competition, which encourages entrepreneurs and inventors to present cutting-edge concepts and technology in the realm of defence.
In addition, Khalid received a financial award of Rs 3 lakh from DRDO Hyderabad for his accomplishment.
This gas turbine engine is a single-stage centrifugal one. Fuel and compressed air are combined, and when they are ignited, they provide thrust that propels the vehicle forward. An engine of this type generates around 8 kg of thrust and 1,20,000 RPM.
This engine runs on kerosene, diesel, aircraft turbine fuel (ATF), and compressed natural gas.
