After Elon Musk purchased Twitter, many people left the platform due to Musk’s ‘reforms.’ Users are upset over the fact that they will have to pay for basic features on Twitter. Lately, several celebrities have deleted their Twitter accounts when Musk announced eight dollars per month for the blue tick verification.
Looks like, a social media migration is happening now. The Twitteratis are flocking to Mastodon, a federated social network where users join servers instead of signing up for an account. By being federated, it means there are no shareholders, no central control and no targeted ad. It is a place where like-minded people share their views.
BBC reports that about 2,30,000 Twitter users moved to Mastodon within one week. Those who are above 18 can join Mastodon. They can open the account through e-mail verification. Here ‘tweets’ are called ‘toots’ and ‘retweet’ is called ‘reblogging’. One can share poll posts, photos and videos here. If the character limit on Twitter is 280, on Mastodon, it is 500. And, Mastodon has no Blue Ticks!
