At the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Global Aviation Awards, Dubai Airports, the company that runs Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), received the Best Aviation Sustainability Program (Environment pillar) award in recognition of its ongoing work to foster the growth of a more environmentally friendly aviation sector.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO(the )’s award’s sponsor) 41st General Assembly recently featured a notable event in Montreal, Canada. Dubai Airports received recognition for its efforts as a pioneer in the international aviation sector in putting into practise its continuous sustainability programmes.These initiatives include introducing electric and hybrid ground service vehicles, replacing 150,000 conventional light fixtures across DXB’s terminals and airfield with LED lighting, and constructing the largest solar array in the Middle East—15,000 panels—at Terminal 2 of the airport.
The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award, which was established in 2016, aims to highlight nations, companies, and people from all over the world by honouring their contributions to the aviation industry’s success. The UAE’s dedication to promoting aviation and its support for the ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” initiative are both reflected in this triennial award.
