With the launch of “Legacy,” Bacardi India declared its entry into the market for Indian-made whisky. This is the first made-in-India whisky produced by the alcohol industry. According to the company, it has already begun selling its product in Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, with intentions to do so in more states in the near future. It is a premium whisky made from Indian and Scottish malts with Indian grains.
After bringing its global whisky portfolio to India a little over four years ago, Bacardi, which is primarily renowned for its white rum varieties in that country, now distributes two scotch whisky brands in that country: Dewar’s & William Lawsons. Even though the company presently only holds a 5% market share in India’s scotch whisky market, it has been putting a lot of effort into expanding this portfolio over the past four years, and it is now growing by more than 50%.
It is anticipated that the company’s entry into the Indian whisky industry will increase its market share in a space currently controlled by Diageo and Pernod Ricard. This venture is followed by one into the brown spirits market earlier this year with Good Man brandy.
