Samsung uses repurposed fishing nets in foldable Galaxy devices. The blue part in Galaxy Z Flip 4 is made of upcycled fishing nets. The blue part, the side key bracket, keeps the phone waterproof and dustproof. It plays a role in improving the durability of the phone. About 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets end up in the ocean every year. It is a big threat to the marine ecosystem. Fishing nets are made of nylon materials. Nylon materials can absorb moisture and water. Samsung aims to prevent over 50 tonnes of discarded fishing nets by the end of 2022.
