Edtech startup Byju’s to lay off 2,500 employees, aims profitability

Edtech startup Byju’s has come up with an ‘optimisation’ plan
It is planning to lay off about 2,500 or 5 per cent of its employees
This is to avoid redundancies and duplication of roles, said the company
The optimisation will happen across product, content, media, and technology teams
This will occur in a phased manner
The company said it looks for profitability by March 2023
Byju’s currently has 50,000 workers
The startup registered a loss of Rs 4,588 cr for FY 21
The firm is also realigning its marketing spending
This is to enhance its global footprint
