The government launched its own company for digital commerce as Walmart-owned Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale was coming to an end after surpassing 1 billion visitors in a week. The government-owned Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) launched its beta test in Bengaluru, starting off modestly with 161 orders.
Customers in Bengaluru from 16 pin codes can first place orders on ONDC for two categories: restaurants and groceries. Buyer-facing apps like Paytm, IDFC First Bank, SpiceMoney, and Mystore, which serve as a gateway for online purchasing, fuel the experience. Names like Bizom, Digiit, e-Samudaay, eVitalrx, Go Frugal, Growth Falcons, Innobits Mystore, nStore, SellerApp, Ushop, and Uengage are among the seller apps.
By enabling vendors to sign up for the network, buyers may view their catalogues and goods. An official statement claims that ONDC will increase the visibility of items and services, increasing sales for vendors.
According to an official, the bigger objective is to bring in tiny, local vendors who have never used a digital platform. According to the official, 55% of the orders placed on day one were for groceries, with the remainder being for food from restaurants.
Before ONDC is further expanded, a beta launch seeks to get early input so that any necessary action can be taken.
