According to deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, the Delhi government has urged the Centre that the country’s retail commerce sector be improved by streamlining registration requirements and enacting cutting-edge business practises.

Regarding the future national retail trade policy, the government has issued a letter with five recommendations to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the central government.

The implementation of a single ID system for easier business registration and the creation of a stringent monitoring and evaluation framework in the Central Inspection System (CIS) are two recommendations. The latter aims to reduce inspection duplication.

The validity of licences should be extended to five years, the National Career Service Portal and Employment Exchange portals should be integrated into a unified system, and there should be a simple procedure for business closure.

According to Sisodia, Indian shopkeepers are currently fighting for a national strategy that would provide them with a framework for running their businesses in an organised way.

According to him, the post-pandemic era has seen a significant change in customer behaviour that has prompted numerous strategic adjustments in the retail sector.

He stated that the National Retail Trade Policy should be used by the government to proactively think about how to streamline the sector.

For retail dealers, the federal government should implement a unified ID system to streamline the licensing and registration procedure nationwide, he said. The chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has spearheaded various attempts to promote the retail sector, according to Sisodia, who is also the AAP’s minister of finance.

Some of these initiatives, he said, include a single-window system for licences, comprehensive skill development programmes, a projected month-long Delhi Shopping Festival for retail trade promotion, and Dilli Bazaar, an e-commerce platform for enterprises.A national retail policy has been suggested by the DPIIT to encourage the expansion of domestic trade.
