India plans to amend the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989
It aims to build a comprehensive regulatory ecosystem for the used car market
Under the new rules, a dealer should handle the vehicle deal
There will be no link between the original owner and the new buyer
It is the dealer’s responsibility to handle the transfer of ownership
The dealer should update the new owner’s details in the state transport office
Dealers will have to keep an electronic vehicle trip register
It is for documenting the trips undertaken, purpose, driver, time and mileage
