Cyrus Mistry, the Indian-born Irish businessman and the former chairman of the Tata Group, passed away in a road accident on September 4, 2022. The accident occurred in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. He is survived by his wife Rohiqa Chagla and two sons.

A preliminary police investigation found that Cyrus Mistry and Jahangir Pandor were  in the back seat of the vehicle and were not wearing seat belts. Police said speeding and error of judgment by the driver were the causes of the accident. Both Mistry and Jahangir died in the accident, but the two front occupants who were wearing seat belts survived the accident.

The car involved in the Accident

A closer look reveals that the vehicle involved in the accident was a first generation Mercedes-Benz GLC. Photos of the car involved in the accident do not reveal the exact trim of the car.

As for the safety of the car involved in the accident, it was based on the MRA architecture, just like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The GLC has been awarded the highest  safety rating of 5 stars by Euro NCAP. Safety highlights include seven airbags, Crosswind Assistant, Parking Assistant, Attention Assistant, Adaptive Brake Lights, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Hill Descent Assistant and Mercedes’ Pre-Safe occupant protection system. Still not wearing the seat belt while sitting in the rear seat took two lives. Wearing seat belt while sitting in the back is as important as it in the front seats.
