India’s indigenous aircraft carrier INS VIKRANT has strengthened the force and increased the pride for the country Built at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, the ship is the largest ever aircraft carrier built in the country’s history. 262 meters long and 62 meters wide, Vikrant is the country’s second aircraft carrier after INS Vikramaditya. India now joins the list of countries like US, UK, Russia and China to indigenously design and build aircraft carriers. INS Vikrant is built with 76 percent Indian-made materials The 18-storied, 42,800-tonne Vikrant can carry 10 helicopters and 20 fighter jets. Equipped with advanced automation features, INS Vikrant can deploy at least 12 MiG-29 aircraft. Vikrant can travel 14,000 km non-stop. Maximum speed is 28 knots. A 16-bed state-of-the-art hospital, 250 fuel tankers and around 2,400 compartments are also part of Vikrant. Vikrant also has the capacity to accommodate 1,600 personnel including separate cabins for women officers and sailors. Vikrant has a huge kitchen that can make 1000 chapatis in an hour 8 diesel generators will generate 25 MW of electricity and 8 power generators will generate 4 lakh liters of fresh water per day. INS Vikrant also has a system to treat even human excreta without sewage entering the sea.
