Japanese semiconductor maker Renesas, a global leader in microcontrollers, analog, power and SoCs, will acquire Indian fabless Steradian Semiconductors. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Steradian specializes in 4D imaging radar solutions. The acquisition will enable Renesas to expand its reach in the radar market and broaden its range of automotive and industrial sensor solutions. The all-cash transaction is expected to close by the end of 2022.

Renesas and Steradian have been collaborating since 2018, primarily on industrial applications. Steradian’s radar technology is expected to be used in surveillance, home security systems such as  traffic monitoring of people, vehicles and motorcycles, Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems such as gesture recognition, and airport terminal docking systems. Steradian provides targeted solutions for these applications by providing transceiver ICs, turnkey modules with antennas, and object detection software stacks.
