Mukesh Ambani at  Reliance’s annual general meeting said that the company’s scientists have developed a method to create biodegradable and compostable plastics, completely replacing single-use plastics. 

RIL is one of the world’s largest plastic producers, contributing over half of India’s plastic production.RIL currently recycles 2 billion PET bottles per year at its facilities in Balabankki, Hoshialpur and Nagothane. To support this transition, RIL established a recycled polyester staple fiber (PSF) production facility in Andhra Pradesh last August.  RIL also announced the commissioning of a  PET plant in Dahej capable of [producing million  tonnes per year. This is expected to be completed by 2026.
