In 2020, the Covid-19 lockdown forced many shopkeepers to shut their businesses. Suumit Shah and Subhash Choudhary’s venture Dukaan, started in 2020, aimed to solve this issue. They created the app within 48 hours.
Here is their story.
One of the founders and CEO of Dukaan, Suumit Shah used to work at his uncle’s shop in Maharashtra. He later learned engineering, web designing and marketing. He introduced the idea of Dukaan to Subhash Choudhary, co-founder and CTO of Dukaan. The duo had worked together earlier to launch Risemetric, a marketing service company, and later Rankz, a company providing marketing tools and more.
The duo decided to create Dukaan, an online marketplace, to help small retailers and merchants sell their products without any hassle. The idea was to create an easy-to-use platform. They launched the app Dukaan in May 2020. Within 20 days, it got more than 1,50,000 registrations across 400 cities. The key part is that a user can create their own store within 30 seconds. Today, Dukaan has more than 5 million shops.
