NAVALT

Navalt is an eco-marine tech startup specializing in solar electric vessel manufacturing. Navalt’s main activities are electrifying boats and ships in the water transport sector and discovering ways to save fuel consumption through data analytics from ships and boats. Navalt aims to bring electric propulsion systems from small diesel-powered boats to large boats. Alternative methods like solar energy, fuel cell, wind propulsion etc. are used for this.

What makes Navalt unique is that it uses a different propulsion system in boats and ships. Similarly, Navalt has developed technology to make the same propulsion system more efficient through analytics with the help of data acquired from boats and ships.

The Founding Team

Sandith Thandasherry is the founder of Navalt which has a team of 105 employees comprising Naval Architects, Marine Engineers and Electrical Engineers. Apart from this, Navalt has 25 jobs related to boat manufacturing and 50 subcontractors. This team leads the boat building and data analytics software platform.

Clients

Navalt has two types of clients. The first category consists of boat owners, owners and operators of defense and fishing boats in the tourism sector and those who want to electrify their boats. The second category comprises ship owners and operators in large shipping companies. People in the latter category are interested in reducing the fuel cost of the ship.

Acknowledgements

Navalt’s solar ferry,  Aditya, got the 2020 Gustave Trouve award, Navalt’s biggest recognition. In addition, Navalt has received awards from the Solar Impulse Foundation and many more.

Future plans

Navalt provides data analytics for MSC and Shell, the world’s largest container company. It has got an order for 20 ferry boats from Kerala. Navalt also aims to expand its operations to many states including Uttar Pradesh and to major markets outside of India such as America, Africa, Europe and other parts of Asia. Another goal is to develop various technologies for larger ships. For example wind energy, onboard solar and fuel cell technologies etc.

Navalt is working to move from electrifying small ships to larger ships. Navalt hopes to achieve this goal in five years. The company is currently planning to raise 25 million.
