Born in a middle-class family, Kishore also desired to study in the US and work there. After securing graduation from the IIT Kharagpur, he completed post-graduation and PhD from Massachusetts University in polymer science engineering. Soon, he started working at Intel. After working for six years, he realised that his real passion was agriculture. Kishore returned to India, and in 2012, he bought 20 cows from Coimbatore and started the dairy farm ‘Sid’s Farm’ in Hyderabad. He started distributing unadulterated milk to consumers on a subscription basis.
The initial investment was Rs 1 crore. Later, there was an investment of Rs 2 crores. He secured Rs 1.30 crore worth of term loans from banks. The business flourished. It currently has 120 employees and distributes milk to 10,000 customers per day. Kishore claims that the brand received a Rs 65 crore sales turnover last year. The brand also sells items like ghee, curd, and paneer. The milk does not contain preservatives, antibiotics, and hormones. Kishore claims that each batch of milk goes through 26 tests in different parameters every day.
This D2C brand connects with customers via an app that follows the postpaid model for subscriptions. Kishore has plans to shift to a prepaid model. Sid’s Farm’s products are available on BigBasket, Swiggy, Dunzo, and Amazon as well. The brand has plans to expand its product portfolio and outlets. Sid’s Farm also considers venture capital funding for the growth.
