YouTube Channel-Turned-Unicorn PhysicsWallah Writes A Fresh Chapter | Alakh Pandey

Alakh Pandey started teaching physics to overcome the financial crisis at home. Little did he expect that it would change his life when he revived his existing YouTube channel PhysicsWallah for posting Physics tutorials for Class XI students and Chemistry classes for JEE mains level.

Currently, the channel has 6.87 million subscribers on YouTube. Pandey, the edtech entrepreneur says that many edtech giants have approached him either to join their platform or to acquire his channel. He did not yield as his student community was dear to him.

In 2020, he launched a standalone app of PhysicsWallah along with co-founder Prateek Maheshwari as a bootstrapped project. Today, it generates a revenue of Rs 350 crore with a profit margin of 60 per cent. Now, he is in talks to raise $100 million.

What makes PhysicsWallah different is its low cost compared to other online companies. When it launched its first batch in May 2020, the price was just Rs 999. About 60,000 students purchased the course. Now, it runs close to 60 batches targeting students from Classes IX to XII. It aims to expand its courses to students in Class VI, VII, and VIII in the future. It also plans to expand to regional language audiences.
