For 100-year-old Brazilian man Walter Orthmann, it is a proud moment. He has recently entered the Guinness World Records for serving a company for more than 84 years! He works for the textile company in Brazil called Industrias Renaux SA, popularly known as RenauxView.
Born on April 19, 1922, in the state of Santa Catarina, he joined the company on January 17, 1938, at the age of 16 as a shipping assistant. His dedication and discipline earned him a promotion to a sales position. Later, he was promoted to Sales Manager. Till then, he has been working in that position.
During his young age, it was common for sons to start working at a young age to support the family. Orthmann says that while working as a salesman, he travelled to São Paulo and brought orders for three months in less than a week.
What is Orthmann’s secret to success? He says he lives in the present. He does not plan much and is not worried about the future. In his words, tomorrow is just another day for waking up, exercising and going to work. He says we need to deal with the present. And, he is not yet thinking of retirement.
