India has another achievement to be proud of. Palli, a village in Jammu and Kashmir has become India’s first ‘carbon neutral panchayat.’ The village is situated on the border district of Samba. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation a 500 KV solar plant. It was installed in a record period of three weeks.

The project consisting of 1,500 solar panels spread across a total area of 6,408 square metres will provide clean electricity to 340 households in the panchayat. The initiative comes under the central government’s Gram Urja Swaraj programme.

Prime Minister lauded the villagers who became a part of the project by providing food to the project workers. The project yielded a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. The electricity generated from the solar panels will be distributed daily through the local power grid station. The ideal requirement would be 2,000 units per day.
