A Netherlands-based assistive technology company has released its latest smart glasses designed to help the visually impaired read documents, scan faces, and assist navigation with the help of artificial intelligence. California State University, Northridge recently featured these smart glasses at a conference. It uses artificial intelligence to read signs at a train station, printed documents or words on any object. Users can also have their surroundings described aloud.

- It can brief each piece of text in more than 60 languages, including longer texts, street signs, and even book pages. Through video calls, another person can verbally guide the user around their surroundings.
- The glasses can also recognize objects, detect colours, recognize faces, detect light, and export text.To survive in the environment, the company makes it waterproof and dustproof.
- Envision is the brainchild of Karthik Mahadevan and Karthik Kannan. Both graduated from Guindy Institute of Technology and established Envision in 2017 based in the Netherlands. Envision glasses are based on the Enterprise Edition of Google Glass.
- Envision smart glasses have an 8-megapixel camera and a wide field of view. The device is WiFi and Bluetooth equipped, so the user can stay connected. It also has a built-in speaker and a battery that can last for up to six hours.
- The glasses weigh less than 50 grams and are controlled by a smartphone. They are powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor.
- It will be interesting to see the price of Envision smart glasses in India. Currently, smart glasses aren’t available in India.
