Amazon is planning to enter the field of augmented reality (AR). The company has started several job hunts for “new to world smart home products” that use XR / AR technology. XR or extended reality is a term that includes both virtual reality (VR) and AR.

There aren’t many details about what this product is, but the job listing details are also relatively sparse (some of them are already closed).

The list of software developers, XR / AR, and XR / AR devices that are already closed includes “Design and Development of Key Software and Architecture for New Smart Home Products” and “Code from Early Prototype to Mass Production.”

Others Big names in AR / XR business

Facebook-owned Meta Platforms already sells one of the most popular VR headsets, the Oculus Quest 2, and has partnered with RayBan to sell smart glasses, which went on sale in September 2021. The company is currently planning to launch the first AR headset by 2024.

Microsoft also sells the popular VR headset HoloLens. It has shelved the HoloLens 3 project due to the lack of a clear vision for the company.

At the same time, giants like Google, Apple, and even Snapchat are reported to have been working on their own XR devices for years, but Snapchat’s device was announced in May 2021 but is still not available to the public.
