India’s own Funky Accessory Store, Chumbak
Known for their quirky products, Bangalore’s very own, Chumbak, is the brainchild of Shubhra Chadda. Chumbak is an online store for funky accessories and jewelry with an Indian touch. Shubhra is one of the women entrepreneurs in India who has truly made things so much more beautiful with a design-led brand.
The idea started when Subhra Chadad and her husband, Vivek Prabhakar noticed that most countries have several quirky souvenirs to offer, however India with all its culture and quirkiness doesn’t. When coming to gift something, we Indians are left with many few options like some showpiece, shawls or handicrafts. There was nothing which could truly represent India.
Shubhra understood this gap and decided to create something colorful, magnetic and attractive gifts, with her husband. Vivek Prabhakar fell in love with this idea and readily agreed to start working on it. The idea seems so good to them that without giving it a second thought, they sold their house worth Rs. 45 Lakhs to seed fund their business & named it Chumbak in 2009.
Started with selling a house worth Rs. 45 lakh, Chumbak brand has raised a total of around $28,000,00 amount of funding from Narayan Ramachandran, Blacksoil and Gaja Capitals along with their seed amount of funding.
Chumbak has come a long way, covering Shubhra’s products, design and sourcing. From pop-up stores in airports and theaters and selling collectibles or niche design stores to launching Apple and personal care products, Chumbak has become a full-fledged lifestyle brand.
Just like many others, Shubhra Chadda and Vivek Prabharkar had faced many struggles initially, whether it was about finding the right vendor or creating the perfect design for its customers. But they always handled the situation very calmly, continuously worked on their designs and never saw a pause which made their dream come true.
