Elon Musk officially inaugurated Tesla’s Gigafactory at Austin, Texas
The $1.1 billion factory will help the company ramp up its EV production and batteries
Spread over more than 5 square miles, the Texas Gigafactory is larger in size than the Pentagon
Tesla built the facility at a cost of $1 billion and received more than $60 million in tax breaks
This is Tesla’s second plant in the United States, the first one was in Fremont, California
The facility, called Giga Texas, will also produce Model Y crossover cars
It will employ approximately 10,000 employees
Musk also revealed that the factory will start producing its brand-new Cybertruck next year
