Britannia promises a 50% increase in women’s employment next year

Brittania celebrated Women’s day 2022 in a unique way by promising more opportunities to women.

Women’s equality is integral to all dimensions of inclusive and sustainable development. Empowering women will allow them to have more control over their lives and future. This can be achieved through increasing women’s agency, ensuring equal access and control over resources and providing supportive institutional structures in place.

Britannia Industries Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Amit Doshi said, “We want to promote gender equality in the company,” At Britannia’s Guwahati factory, the proportion of women in the workforce is 60 per cent. At present, 38 % of the company’s workforce is women. For empowering women, the company has already launched a start-up challenge among women entrepreneurs, Doshi said. Women in leadership roles played an important role in facilitating an inclusive environment.

So far, the company has provided seed capital of Rs 10 lakh each to 30 female entrepreneurs for start-ups in areas like e-commerce, digital services, and ophthalmological care through mobile vans and child education, he said. The company has also tied up with Google for providing skill training to women across the country, he added.

FMCG major Britannia Industries said on Wednesday that it aims to achieve a diversity ratio of 50 per cent by 2024 by increasing the participation of women in its workforce. Women are an important constituent of our society as well as our company. We have been steadily increasing the number of women employees at our manufacturing facility over the years. We are looking forward to closing the 2022 calendar year with 65% women in our workforce. The plant has an installed daily production capacity of 260 tonnes and the present capacity utilisation stands at 210-240 tonnes. The facility manufactures six different products, including the company’s flagship brands Good Day, Marie Gold and Nutrichoice, added Britannia Industries Regional Manufacturing Head (East) Kishor Vinayak Kulkarni. The Wadia Group inaugurated the plant at Rampur near Guwahati in July 2018. It had invested Rs 170 crore to set up Britannia’s largest greenfield manufacturing facility of that time.

Such an outstanding decision by Britannia and hope this becomes a precedent for the rest.
