Starbucks has closed two outlets in China after reports of food safety violations surfaced. The company said it is investigating the matter.

Expired ingredients

A news report said the firm used expired ingredients to make drinks. The incidents reportedly occurred at two stores in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi. “We take the local media report very seriously,” a Starbucks spokesperson said.

The incident became a trending topic on China’s social media platform Weibo. China is the largest market for Starbucks outside the US.
