Union minister Nitin Gadkari said he will launch a battery-electric tractor in the coming days.
Accelerate agriculture
The introduction of tractors will bring down the overall cost of farm produce, Gadkari said.
The minister declined to name the company which is launching the electric tractor. Gadkari hinted that electric tractors can haul farm produce from the fields to the market.
India’s tractor market has grown by 16% to 8.59 lakh from January to November. Only Punjab-based Sonalika Tractors have commercially launched an electric tractor. Market leaders Mahindra & Mahindra and TAFE are yet to announce their electric tractors.
