In the present scenario, everyone is discussing the new technologies and technological disruptions around the world, specifically focusing on the Covid pandemic. The future of media is affected and what will be the greatest disruption going to happen for the media is a big question.
Digital disruption
“Digital disruption is there and it’s been happening for the past decade or so, but the pandemic has sort of accelerated it,” says Jayant Mammen Mathew, Executive Editor & Director, Malayala Manorama.
He said newsrooms and journalism will continue to be there. The only difference is that the medium and delivery will change. A story is a story, whether it’s in a newspaper, on television or the internet. All those fundamentals will remain the same. But digital disruption will be there.
Focus on reskilling
According to him, digital disruption will make the news much easier to access for people across the country. The more important thing is during this time a lot of reskilling has happened.
“Journalists will move across mediums. People from digital, moving to television, television, moving to print. As long as there is an opportunity and fundamentals as a reporter or journalist, the Digital disruption would not be an issue,” he added.
