Will the Facebook rebranding turn into serious concerns relating to privacy? As the company is leading towards a virtual world, there are severe concerns raised if private data will be misused. It has been pointed out that data breaches and misinformation spread the social media platform currently face are still not rectified.
A group says that the name change is to divert from the serious issues reported in the ‘Facebook papers’ released by a Press Consortium, which includes the Associated Press. Facebook is facing legal battles even in the US.
Corporate rebranding is not going to help Facebook, which has faced allegations about certain subjects released through internal documents recently. But this is not stopping Zuckerberg. If we borrow the words of Zuckerberg, just like the transformation from desktop computers to smartphones, metaverse, a space connecting online and augmented reality, will be the future.
However, the company hasn’t been restructured following the announcement. Zuckerberg will continue as Chief Executive and Chairman. He maintains a controlling stake in Facebook and has the power to take decisions relating to the company’s future.
Corporate rebranding is rare but isn’t extraordinary. The new logo means infinity and we will have to wait and see if metaverse can be a game-changer technology in future, as the logo suggests.
