PM Modi inaugurated the Khushinagar International Airport.

The opening of the airport will boost Buddhist tourism in India.

The inaugural international flight arrived from Sri Lanka to Kushinagar on October 20.

The flight had a delegation led by Sri Lanka’s Cabinet Minister Namal Rajapaksa and 100 senior Buddhist monks.

The Rs 260 crore-Kushinagar airports will have direct flights to Delhi four times weekly from November 26.

Mumbai and Kolkata will also get direct flights to this city from December 18, Civil Aviation Minister J M Scindia said.

SpiceJet flights on the Delhi-Kushinagar-Delhi sector will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Kushinagar, in UP, is an important destination for Buddhists around the world.
