India is constructing the world’s largest highway – Delhi-Mumbai Express Highway

The project will be over by March 2022, said Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari

Gadkari recently inspected the Bharuch section of the expressway

The 1,380 km long expressway will go up to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust

As of now, the government plans to take it up till Nariman Point

It is being developed at a cost of Rs98,000 cr

It will connect the urban centres of Delhi via the Delhi-Faridabad-Sona section of the corridor

Earlier, it used to take about 48 hours to travel between Mumbai and Delhi by truck and 24-26 hours by car

The duration will be reduced to 18-20 hours by truck and 12-13 hours by car

The expressway will have wayside amenities such as ATMs, hotels, food courts and charging stations for EVs

They will be installed at 93 places

It will also be the first expressway in India to have helipads and fully equipped trauma centres

This eco-friendly expressway will have a tree cover of 2 million trees

It will be linked to Delhi–Noida Direct Flyway, Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway and Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway

In Maharashtra, it will be connected with Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway and Mumbai–Pune Expressway
